Thanks so much for this post. Since I am retired, I no longer use R. But that is a wonderful suggestion that someone might take up.
Best wishes,
Jon
I did this in Excel because physicians are so familiar with it.

Hi Dr. Shuster,
I read your paper and wanted to thank you for sharing. I wondered if you had considered creating an R package for your methods. Or is there already such a package? I understand Excel is easier for many people, but I was thinking that given many of us use packages in R when doing meta-analysis that adding a package in R might make it easier for many of our work flows and making it a package with an attached publication would help drive adoption as well and point out differences from established methods. Thank you for your work. Laura Kapitula

Hi all:
My open access article on meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials is now posted in final form on the Taylor-Francis website. The paper will appear in the ASA journal Statistics in Biopharmaceutic Research and can be accessed at
Mainstream Meta-Analysis of Clinical Trials Produces Strongly Inconsistent Estimators
Best wishes,
