Hello all (& apologies for the cross-post),
In the National Library of Medicine's request for comments on the "Future of the National Library of Medicine Biomedical and Data Science Extramural Research Programs", the terms "AI" and "informatics" are mentioned a total of 36 times. "Statistics" is mentioned only once.
Several ASA Statistical Consulting Section members and I have drafted a response to the National Library of Medicine's NOT-LM-25-002 on the future of extramural research at the NLM. In our comments, we urge the NLM to support research that integrates ethical statistical principles. Further, we make a case for the crucial contributions statisticians make to the "data science" endeavor, and to the scientific endeavor more generally.
