    Friends,

The Communities in Action presidential initiative is grounded in the belief that ASA members are uniquely positioned to make a difference in communities. Now, we need your expertise to help build the resources that will make it happen.

We're forming working groups to develop a new set of toolkits that will help ASA members engage meaningfully with schools, nonprofits, media audiences, and community organizations. This is your chance to shape practical, high-impact resources.

We have identified four toolkits and are actively recruiting working group members for each:

    Stats Lab: Careers in Action

A hands-on toolkit that helps statisticians bring the excitement of data and statistics to young audiences through interactive activities - designed to spark curiosity and inspire future careers in classrooms, libraries, and beyond.

    Behind the Headline

A practical toolkit that equips statisticians to help everyday readers develop the critical thinking skills needed to spot misinformation and disinformation in news and media through a statistical lens.

    The Working Data Toolkit

A practitioner-focused resource that helps individuals and organizations build effective data management practices using tools they already have, like Excel and Google Sheets.

    Ask Better Questions

A beginner-friendly toolkit, developed by ASA members, to help nonprofit professionals design effective surveys that yield reliable, meaningful data to support their missions and decision-making.

Don't see your idea on the list? We want to hear it. ASA members are also invited to propose additional toolkits that reflect the communities and contexts you know best.

Working groups will be small, collaborative, and focused. Members will contribute to toolkit design, content development, and review. Our goal is to have the toolkits available by mid-June.

Ready to get to work? Use this form to volunteer.

Together, we can develop new ties or deepen existing ones and drive grassroots impact in the communities we call home.

Please reach out to me if you have questions.

    Regards,

Donna (on behalf of the Communities in Action Steering Committee)
