  • 1.  An excellent graphic in today's NY Times

In my decades of teaching statistical science, I often opened a class session by discussing some real use of statistics, good or bad, that was related to that week's mainstream news or to an important new scientific paper. Today's New York Times has an excellent graphic, attached. My only criticism, which is nit-picky, is that I would have made each line's label the same color as that line.

I've tried looking for the attachment a couple of different ways, but am not seeing it. Can you repost?

    Thanks,

Could you please try attaching the file again?

(Just attached a test image to see if it's the website.)

Hi Ralph! (We met briefly at a UF  stat  zoom reunion during the pandemic)

Great visualization indeed  (not the content of course). My students work with a similar plot on day 1 of my intro stats class - it's a line plot showing the % change in check ins from different locations in the early days of the pandemic in 2 countries.  (data source: https://ourworldindata.org/covid-mobility-trends). The hardest part is explaining what a percent change is :)
