Below is an announcement for a teachers workshop run in conjunction with the Joint Statistical Meeting (JSM) held here in Denver this summer. I attended the educators' workshop last time in 2008 and the folks presenting are really at the top of their field. If you know any teachers in your networks who might be interested - please encourage them to attend and forward this information.
Dear Colleagues,
The American Statistical Association (ASA)/National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) Joint Committee will be holding statistics workshops this summer in Denver for middle and high school math and science teachers and AP statistics teachers. We have full reimbursement scholarships for preservice teachers and half-registration reimbursements available for the first 20 teachers who register and attend (the workshop will only cost $25). We would be happy to invite teacher educators and statistics educators interested in preparing future teachers to attend as guests. I am including more info below and please let me know if there are others you recommend I contact to help spread the word. Please share info about these opportunities with your colleagues.
ASA/NCTM Statistics Workshops for Middle-School, High-School, and AP Statistics Teachers in Denver, Colorado
Registration for each workshop is just $50 and registration scholarships/reimbursements are available. Optional graduate credit is available from Adams State University.
The Meeting Within a Meeting (MWM) Statistics Workshop for Middle- and High-School Mathematics and Science Teachers (www.amstat.org/education/mwm) will take place on July 30–31, 2019 in Denver, Colorado. MWM will strengthen understanding of statistics and provide hands-on classroom activities within the college and career ready standards with separate strands for middle school and high school teachers. Presenters include Christine Franklin and other prominent statistics educators.
The Beyond AP Statistics (BAPS) Workshop (www.amstat.org/education/baps) will take place on July 31, 2019 in Denver, Colorado. Organized by Roxy Peck, the BAPS workshop is offered for experienced AP Statistics teachers and consists of enrichment material beyond the basic AP syllabus.
Both workshops are offered by the American Statistical Association/National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (ASA/NCTM) Joint Committee on Curriculum in Statistics and Probability in conjunction with the Joint Statistical Meetings (JSM) 2019, though registration for JSM is not required. AP Statistics teachers can attend the MWM high school workshop on Tuesday and the BAPS workshop on Wednesday.
Registration will be open until July 15 or until the courses fill, but a limited number of scholarships and reimbursements are available, so act quickly and register soon! For more information about scholarship availability, please contact Rebecca Nichols at rebecca@amstat.org.
