    The Section on Statistics in Genomics and Genetics (SSGG) is a community of individuals interested in Statistical Genomics and Genetics within the American Statistical Association (ASA). The goal of the SSGG is to foster research, education and influence of statisticians on genomics and genetics and associated applications.     SSGG is calling all creative minds and aspiring designers!  We are excited to invite you to participate in our logo design competition, in which we search for a captivating emblem that not only visually represents our section's values but also resonates with our diverse community. Whether you are a seasoned graphic designer or simply passionate about creating compelling visuals, we encourage you to join us in this competition and make a lasting impression in our community. Please follow the directions listed below and send your submission to nzhao10@jhu.edu before July 21, 2023 (EST). Please list your title as "SSGG logo competition submission_XXX" with XXX replaced by your name, and give your detailed information about your affiliation and address in the email.

    Competition Rules:

    1. Eligibility:
      1. The competition is open to all individuals, including ASA members and non-members.
      2. Participants must be at least 18 years old.
    2. Theme: 
      1. The logo design should reflect the field of statistics in genomics and genetics, representing the spirit, purpose, and goals of the American Statistical Association's Section on Statistics in Genomics and Genetics.
      2. The design should be original, creative, and visually appealing.
      3. The logo should be suitable for use in both digital and print media.
    3. Submission Guidelines:
      1. Submissions must be in a digital format (e.g., JPEG, PNG) and must be high-resolution (minimum 300 dpi).
      2. The logo may be (not required) accompanied by a brief description (maximum 100 words) explaining the design concept and its relevance to the theme.
      3. Submissions must not contain any watermarks, signatures, or any other personal identification marks.
    4. Intellectual Property:
      1. By submitting an entry, participants agree to transfer all intellectual property rights to the American Statistical Association's Section on Statistics in Genomics and Genetics.
      2. The ASA reserves the right to modify, adapt, or reproduce the winning logo(s) for its purposes, including but not limited to promotional materials, websites, publications, and merchandise.
    5. Deadline:
      1. All entries must be submitted by midnight July 21, 2023 (EST), after which no further submissions will be accepted.
    6. Selection Process:
      1. A panel of judges appointed by the ASA will review and evaluate all eligible submissions based on creativity, originality, relevance to the theme, and visual appeal. Up to three winners may be selected.
      2. The ASA reserves the right not to select any winner if none of the submitted entries meet the desired criteria.
    7. Final Logo: 

    a.     The final logo may be created by combining elements from the (up to) three winning logos. The winners are expected to participate in the final design process.

    1. Winner Announcement:
      1. Winning decision will be made on July 28th, 2023 at SSGG Monthly Executive Committee Meeting.  
      2. The winner will be notified via email or telephone within 1 week after the selection process is completed.
      3. The winning logo will be publicly announced at the SSGG Business Meeting at the Joint Statistical Meeting (Toronto) 2023. Winning logo will also be announced at the ASA's official website, social media channels, and other relevant platforms.
    2. Prize:
      1. The top three winners will receive checks of 500, 300 and 100 US dollars for their work, respectively.
      2. The ASA may also consider offering additional non-monetary incentives, such as featuring the winner's biography or showcasing their work in ASA publications or events.
    3. Rights and Usage:
      1. The American Statistical Association's Section on Statistics in Genomics and Genetics will retain full rights to the winning logo and may modify it as needed.    
      2. The ASA may use the winning logo for promotional and marketing purposes.
      3. Participants agree not to use the submitted logo for any other purposes or claim any rights to it after submission.
    4. Legal Considerations:
      1. Participants warrant that their submissions are original works created by them and do not infringe upon the rights of any third party.
      2. Participants indemnify and hold the ASA harmless from any claims, damages, or liabilities arising out of copyright or intellectual property disputes.
    5. Disqualification:
      1. The ASA reserves the right to disqualify any submission that violates the competition rules or fails to meet the desired criteria.
