    Dear Colleagues,

We are inviting teacher educators and statisticians/statistical educators interested in getting more involved in the statistical education of future or current middle and high school teachers to attend as guests (no registration fee required) to the following ASA/NCTM Joint Committee statistics workshops that will be held at JSM in Baltimore.  If you are interested in attending as a guest, please let me know at Rebecca@amstat.org.  Pre-service teachers, in addition to middle and high school teachers, are also welcome to register as attendees and scholarships are available.

The American Statistical Association (ASA)/National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) Joint Committee will be holding statistics workshops this August in Baltimore for middle and high school science and math teachers and teacher educators teaching future or in-service middle and high school teachers.  This two-day opportunity will demonstrate the spirit for how to teach the core statistics standards so that every high school student graduates with a sound foundation in statistical literacy. Recommendations of the Statistical Education of Teacher (SET) Report (www.amstat.org/education/set) will also be incorporated. We would be happy to invite teacher educators to attend as guests, where no registration fees are required.  If interested, please contact Rebecca Nichols at Rebecca@amstat.org.  Pre-service teachers are also welcome to register as attendees and full scholarships are available for Maryland, DC, and Virginia pre-service and in-service teachers due to scholarships from the Washington Statistical Society and half-scholarships are available for other attendees.

MWM will strengthen understanding of statistics and provide hands-on classroom activities within the Common Core and Next Generation Science Standards. The Statistical Education of Teacher Report (www.amstat.org/education/set) recommendations will also be utilized. Optional graduate credit is available.

Registration is just $50 and open until July 14 or the courses fill. Full scholarships are available from the Washington Statistical Society for area teachers and half-scholarships are available through the Biopharmaceutical Section and Martha Aliaga Scholarship Fund. Contact rebecca@amstat.org for more information.

MWM is offered by the ASA/NCTM Joint Committee on Curriculum in Statistics and Probability in conjunction with JSM 2017 in Baltimore, MD, though registration for JSM is not required to attend MWM.

    Thank you,
    Rebecca
