    2020 Transportation Statistical Interest Group Student Paper Competition

    The Transportation Statistics Interest Group (TSIG) of the American Statistical Association (ASA) is inviting submissions to our 2022 student paper competition for research on transportation statistics. This paper competition is for the JSM 2022 event and TSIG will offer up to four student paper awards.

    A complete manuscript is required to enter the competition. We encourage both methodological and applications research in transportation statistics. The competition is open to all areas of transportation statistics research including but not limited to: transportation safety, traffic network modeling, automated driving systems, transportation survey and data.

    Four winners will be selected by a committee: 1st place (Spiegelman Award): $400, 2nd place: $300, 3rd place: $200, Honorable mention: $100.

    Applications are due December 15, 2021 and winners will be notified by January 15, 2022.

    Eligibility

    1. The student must be the first author of the paper. (Joint first authorships are not allowed.)
    2. The applicant must be a student as of Fall 2021 (undergraduate, Masters, or Ph.D.)
    3. Students who have previously received the award from TSIG are not eligible to participate.
    4. Papers that have been accepted for publication at the time of submission are not eligible for the competition.
    5. The competition winners must present their papers at the TSIG annual meeting or mid-year virtual meeting. The 1st place winner must submit the abstract and register for JSM 2022 by the deadline through the official JSM abstract submission system (https://ww2.amstat.org/meetings/jsm/2022/conferenceinfo.cfm), selecting TSIG as a primary sponsor.

    Application Process

    Applications must include:

    1. A cover letter with the applicant's name, current affiliation and status, and contact information (address, telephone, e-mail).
    2. The CV of the applicant.
    3. A full paper with abstract
    4. A letter from the advisor verifying the student status of the applicant and briefly describing the applicant's role in the research and writing of the paper.

    To apply for the competition, please email the package to Eun Sug Park (e-park@tti.tamu.edu), Chair of the TSIG Student Paper Award Committee. All entries must arrive by 5 PM CST December 15, 2021. Please include the words "Student Paper Award" in the subject line of the email.

    Selection Process

    The TSIG Paper Contest and Award Committee will review the papers, and winners will be notified by January 15, 2022. Winners must confirm their acceptance of the award by January 21, 2021. Failure to confirm the award may lead to removal from the list of winners.
