    Dear ASA members,
It was a wonderful JSM.  We were so pleased that 200 statistical experts donated over 400 books to the Library of Alexandria in egypt to attack "Stataphobia" (fear of statistics and not have access to statistics books).  2016 was remarkable year, where we collected 3000 books and these were delivered by cargo ship to Alexandria.  2017 has been exceptional, as we have 238 books with 80 from Canada with Janet Mcdougall, and 25 from the American statistical Association.  It appears that we have collected >11,000 books. This makes the library of alexandria by far the largest research methods library in the world. (e.g. the Library of congress has 161,000,000 books but only 4000 research methods.  Also quite amazing due to you, we have 4 times the number of research methods books than in all libraries in Africa. The donors have been amazing.  We put you name on a name plate for each book.

Here is the most beautiful library of alexandria which will house the ASA books.

Here is the largest library reading room, where your books will stay with Euclid for centuries to come

As I always say, look at  your bookshelf, what percentage of books have you read in the past 5 years? Perhaps they could be better used in Arab and African countries to stamp out statphobia. This has been endorsed by the ASA, RSS, IBS, SSC statistical society and 3 epidemiology societies

We will stop collecting books on Sept. 7 and have the loaded in to a container then put onto a cargo ship.

If you would like to donate books email me at ronaldlaporte@gmail.com, or call at 7249349023

You will be sending your boxes of books to:

(how many of you still have books you used in graduate school?  When was the last time you opened them?)

This is truly encouraging! Especially, our statisticians are watching out for one another and even contribute to a nation, where our fellow statistician is being punished for doing his job, not compromising with politicians, who are fearful of telling the truth.
