  • 1.  Reference material for likert scale questionnaire data analysis

I am looking for any material that I can refer to which gives guidelines on how to analyse questionnaire data measured on likert scale. I am using SPSS version 20 (IBM).

    Kudakwashe,

I use divergent bar charts to show results. I posed a "how-to" question to the JMP community and got a number of suggestions. I use the "buffered" approach discussed in one of the response. The link to my question and the responses is given below:

    https://community.jmp.com/t5/Discussions/Anyone-know-how-to-create-divergent-bar-chart-for-Likert-scale/td-p/12898

I know that R has at least one package (e.g., likert) that can do divergent bar charts, but I did not find it easy to customize some of the labeling. Probably more of a reflection of my poor R coding than anything to do with the package.

I also found the reference below which specifically mentions SPSS.

I'm attaching a handout I once made for a quick-and-dirty scale analysis. Some citations can be provided, but this is just a crib sheet. It's far from refined. In response to one post, most applied psychometricians would steer you towards doing an EFA rather than a PCA to investigate structure. This has historically been a bit of a hot-button issue, but I'll stand by my statement.
