    Hello, all!

ASA Director of Strategic Initiatives and Outreach Donna LaLonde asked me to share this announcement with you! Here at the ASA, we're launching a Media Training Pilot. Read the full announcement below or download the attached DOC version.

    Pilot Media Training for Statisticians

    November 15-16, 2016

    ASA Headquarters, Alexandria, VA

We are excited to offer you an opportunity to participate in the media training pilot workshop announced by Jessica Utts during her JSM presidential address. The aim of the workshop is to reinforce the importance of public engagement and provide vital resources to statisticians who would like to be active outside of their field. By the end of the two-day session we want participants to feel more comfortable and confident in engaging with journalists, policy makers, and the public and to walk away with concrete examples of how they can participate in public discussions. Best of all -- There will be no fee for participation in the pilot! Limited travel support is available!

The pilot training is scheduled for November 15-16. The first day (Nov. 15) covers the basics of public engagement (e.g., messaging, knowing your audience), while the second day (Nov. 16) focuses on written media (e.g., social media, blogging, Op-Eds). You can apply to attend both days, or just attend one of the two days.

We seek participants with limited or no experience dealing with the media. Also, we seek participants to span the broad membership of ASA: commercial, government, nonprofit, and academic members, including early, mid-career, and senior statisticians, as well as graduate students, academic appointees, etc. We need your feedback to refine the training program.

HOW TO APPLY:  A limited number of seats are available.  Please follow this link to submit your application to attend and for more details on program the tentative agenda is available here

DUE DATE:  Application closing date is Friday, October 7, at 11:00 pm Eastern Time.

SELECTION:  Applicants who are selected to participate will be notified by Monday, October 17.

I thought that after the training, there will be a follow up or the creation of a page on the ASA website.

    Any news?

    Thanks,
