    Dear ASA Members,

The ASA asks you to urge your Senators to support STEM education as priority for Elementary and Secondary Education Act (commonly known as No Child Left Behind) re-authorization. The STEM Ed Coalition makes this easy for you to do by providing you a template message and an interface for you to send a message to your Senators: Support STEM Education as Priority for ESEA Reauthorization (http://www.congressweb.com/stemedcoalition/21). Please take a few minutes to go to that website and communicate with your Senators about the importance of STEM education. (Individualizing the message would be helpful but not necessary.)

As background, in the words of the STEM Ed coalition, "The Senate legislation that would reauthorize the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (commonly known as No Child Left Behind) is expected to come to the Senate floor for consideration on July 7. The new Senate bill-- the Every Child Achieves Act (S.1177)--is a comprehensive and bipartisan bill that includes a significant focus on improving learning in the critical science, technology, engineering, and mathematic (STEM) subjects.  Specifically, the bill includes a hard-won provision, adopted by a close vote during committee consideration, that would provide every state with dedicated funding to support  a wide range of STEM education activities, including professional development and hands on learning."

    Thank you,

    Steve
