  • 1.  A Digression on Covid-19 Vaccine Rollout

    Posted 01-19-2021 18:58

The search for the Covid-19 vaccine was a complete success! However, the US rollout of such vaccines has proven a failure. Such poor rollout suggests the need to re-examine its approach, and redefine some of its methods. In June of 1944 the Allied army successfully landed in Normandy: "Over 1,200 aircraft and more than 5,000 vessels carrying 160,000 troops, medical supplies, water, food, ammunition, etc. were moved in a few days". Operations Research, the technique that made possible its essential Logistics, was born. The operation's political and military leaders had the brilliance of establishing the key goals of the operation while letting the OR people take care of the technical details of its implementation. This article provides examples of other techniques that can be successfully applied to improve the Logistics of Vaccine Rollout and its performance.

Rebekah Jones Turns Herself In To Florida Authorities After Warrant Issued For Her Arrest

The COVID-19 whistleblower accused Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) of declaring "war on science and free speech."

    By Ryan Grenoble

Former Florida data scientist and COVID-19 whistleblower Rebekah Jones turned herself in to authorities Sunday, shortly after a warrant was issued for her arrest amid an investigation into the unauthorized use of the state's emergency alert system in November.

Jones faces one count of "offenses against users of computers, computer systems, computer networks and electronic devices," the Florida Department of Law Enforcement said in a statement to NPR on Monday. FDLE did not respond to a request for comment from HuffPost.....
    ...

"Bogus charges designed to silence and now jail me for being a scientist critical of the government," she wrote. "That's the textbook definition of censorship."

"All this just to silence a critic of a governor who failed to do his job and got thousands killed as a result."  ""

Does the Governor's name end with an "n", instead of an "s"?

Thank you very much for helping us all keep perspective on government agencies' mis-uses and uses of statistical data.  De Santis has, throughout the pandemic, considered it a priority to ameliorate unwelcome information on COVID-19 incidence rather than ameliorating spread.  I hope ASA and its members will support Rebekah Jones.
