NIH RTP Spatiotemporal Health Analytics - Post-doctoral and post-baccalaureate positions

Post-doctoral and post-baccalaureate/master's positions at the NIH/NIEHS/DNTP in the Spatiotemporal Health Analytics Group in RTP

We are seeking talented and motivated fellows with training and experience in spatiotemporal modeling, statistics, and/or environmental health sciences for a position in the Spatiotemporal Health Analytics Group (PI: Dr. Kyle P. Messier) in the Division of the National Toxicology Program at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences in Durham, North Carolina. The successful candidate will have a strong background in one or more of the following areas: human health risk assessment, spatiotemporal statistics, machine learning, toxicology, epidemiology, and bioinformatics.

The Spatiotemporal Health Analytics Group is an interdisciplinary research group at NIEHS/DNTP focusing on spatiotemporal methods and applications that bridge human health exposure science, epidemiology, and toxicology. Example projects include spatiotemporal modeling of exposure to air pollutants, exposure mapping connections to toxicokinetic data, and spatial methods for image analysis. Moreover, there is flexibility for the candidates to utilize unique subject matter expertise to pursue novel ideas within the spatiotemporal and environmental health research domain. The positions will be part of the intramural research section of NIH. Trainee positions at NIH/NIEHS/DNTP offer a wide range of benefits including consistent, internal funding from NIH; access to core facilities such as statistical, microarray, epigenomics, and pathology support; opportunities to collaborate with intramural NIEHS scientists such as the Biostatistics and Computational Biology Branch, Epidemiology Branch, and Office of Data Science; and travel support for presenting research at regional and international conferences.

Two positions are currently available and will remain open until filled:
Post-baccalaureate/post-master's position. A Bachelor's (B.S, B.A.) or Master's (M.S., M.P.H., etc.) degree in scientific or mathematical discipline is required. This research assistant will become involved in multiple research projects and provide support for statistical analysis and manuscript preparation.
Post-doctoral position. A doctoral degree (Ph.D., Sc.D., M.D., etc.) in a scientific or mathematical discipline is required. The fellows' time will be devoted to data analysis, manuscript writing, and career development. Fellows will have the opportunity to propose related research that can be internally funded and are also eligible and encouraged to apply for K99/R00 and non-NIH research grants. There is the potential to support particularly strong candidates at the pre-doctoral who are at or near completion of course work.

Desired skills for both positions:
• Scientific writing and oral communication
• Statistical data analysis. Spatial analysis, big data, and data visualization skills are preferred.
• Intermediate to advanced skills with at least one statistical software package is required. R and MATLAB are preferred.

Salary and benefits are highly competitive. Initial appointment will be two years at NIEHS/DNTP in Durham, North Carolina, with additional time (up to 5 years) depending on productivity.
