Description

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at St. Cloud State University invites applications for a tenure-track position in Statistics. The successful candidate will join a department committed to excellence in teaching and dedicated to preparing the next generation of statisticians and data scientists. The undergraduate statistics program includes concentrations in Mathematical Statistics, Data Science, and Data Analytics. Eight full-time statistics faculty provide students with quality instruction in modern statistical methods using hands-on real-world data.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate's primary assignments will be to teach both introductory and upper-level statistics courses and to work as part of a team to strengthen and grow the statistics programs in the department. The successful candidate will also be involved in the development of curricular materials, serve on department committees and be professionally active. In order to be considered for tenure, the successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to: 1) teach and/or perform assignment effectively; 2) conduct scholarly achievement or research; 3) continue preparation and study in discipline; 4) contribute to student growth and development; and 5) provide service to the university and community. Qualifications

Required:

  • Ph.D. in Statistics, Biostatistics, Data Science, Statistics Education, or closely related area by the appointment date.
  • Evidence of effective teaching with modern statistics education methods
  • Evidence of strong computing skills
  • Evidence of excellent communication skills
  • Evidence of demonstrated ability to teach and work with persons from culturally diverse backgrounds.
Preferred: Preference will be given to candidates who have
  • Statistical consulting experience
  • Experience with Data Science tools/methods
  • Experience with engaging students in experiential learning through real-world projects

The Virginia Tech Department of Statistics (www.stat.vt.edu) invites applications for an open rank tenured or tenure track faculty position in biostatistics to begin in August 2017. Requirements include a Ph.D. in Biostatistics, Statistics, Biometry, Bioinformatics, Biomedical Informatics or a closely related field. The position is a 9-month, tenure or tenure-track appointment, with the opportunity to conduct additional extramurally funded research in the summer. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

This position is part of a university-wide emphasis on data analytics and statistics that will include hiring up to 9 faculty in the coming year, including biostatistics and health analytics, at Virginia Tech. The successful applicant will:

  • Lead a biostatistics research program and expand institutional capabilities by promoting and supporting research in the health sciences, as well as fostering synergistic interactions among Virginia Tech faculty, to build a foundation for additional biostatistics research.
  • Collaborate with researchers, scientists, and clinicians from across the university as part of Virginia Tech's burgeoning health and medical research programs. Collaborating organizations include the Virginia Tech School of Medicine, the Virginia Tech Carilion Research Institute, the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine, the Virginia Tech Public Health Program, the School of Neuroscience, and the Department of Statistics.

Responsibilities

The successful applicant will create and maintain a nationally prominent research program focused on biostatistical methods and applications. Required qualifications

Applicants must have a strong background in biostatistics; compelling promise for developing, or in the case of senior applicants continuing, a well-funded, internationally distinguished research program of methodological and collaborative research; demonstrated experience with and commitment to interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research; a willingness to cross disciplinary boundaries to tackle complex scientific challenges; a desire to advise and teach a student body which is diverse with respect to socio-economic status, interests, and abilities; and commitment/sensitivity to address issues of diversity in the university community. Preferred qualifications

Appointment at the rank of collegiate assistant professor is preferred, but the associate level will be considered for exceptional candidates. These are full-time multi-year appointments (three years for assistant professors and five years for associate professors) with multi-year renewal upon successful review.

We seek candidates who are passionate about teaching statistics to undergraduate and graduate students. Responsibilities include teaching three courses per semester, where successful candidates will:

The program's main objective is to facilitate collaboration between academic scholars and government researchers in fields such as statistics, mathematics, economics, survey methodology, behavioral science, and other related fields. Research Fellows have unique opportunities to expand their work to address some of the difficult methodological problems and analytic challenges BLS faces. Fellows are funded to conduct research at the BLS headquarters in Washington, DC, use BLS data and facilities, and work closely with BLS staff.

For the open-rank position, expertise in statistics and machine learning. An appointment at the associate or full professor level requires a demonstrated record of scholarly leadership. The Department of Biostatistics and Medical Informatics (BMI) of the UW-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH) seeks a supervising scientist beginning fall, 2016. The successful applicant will have a doctoral degree (PhD, ScD, or equivalent) in Biostatistics, Statistics, or a related field and be ready to function at the Associate or Senior Scientist level.

The successful applicant will be responsible for the administrative and scientific oversight of a growing team (currently 7 FTE) MS-level and PhD-level biostatisticians who are deployed in support of collaborative research efforts throughout SMPH. The successful applicant will work closely with the faculty directors of the research cores and the department chair to ensure that the goals of BMI and the cores are met. The research cores include Biostatistics Epidemiology and Research Design (BERD) in the Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (ICTR) and the Biostatistics Shared Resource (BSR) in the UW Carbone Cancer Center (UWCCC). Additionally, the successful applicant will coordinate and provide scientific oversight of MS-level researchers deployed to SMPH departments, including the Departments of Family Medicine and Community Health, Pediatrics, and Radiology.

The duties of this position include teaching statistics courses, establishing and maintaining an active program of scholarship, and participating in service activities including assisting in the actuarial science program. A doctorate in statistics, actuarial science, statistics education or a closely related field is required along with the potential to be an effective teacher at the undergraduate and graduate levels and to conduct an effective scholarship agenda. The ideal candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, be able to teach courses related to actuarial science, have scholarship that complements that of current faculty members, and have documented experience with or potential to work with undergraduate students both in and out of the classroom.

The Department of Mathematical Sciences consists of 29 tenured or tenure track faculty as well as more than 20 full- and part-time non-tenure track faculty. The department offers undergraduate degrees in actuarial science, and mathematics with concentrations in statistics, secondary education, business, life sciences, physical sciences, and computation. The department also offers an M.A. with concentrations in either secondary education or college teaching. The department currently has about 250 undergraduate majors and 21 graduate students. Appalachian State University is a member institution of the sixteen-campus University of North Carolina. Director of Statistical Collaboration/Consulting and Outreach

Appointment at the rank of assistant or associate professor of practice is preferred, but the full level will be considered for exceptional candidates.

The Laboratory for Interdisciplinary Statistical Analysis (LISA; www.lisa.stat.vt.edu) is an innovative approach to statistical consulting and collaboration in support of research and education at Virginia Tech. This position supports the educational mission of the Department of Statistics by training and educating graduate statistics students to successfully collaborate with researchers of other disciplines and to serve as statistical consultants more broadly. The position also supports the research mission of the wider university, including a variety of research institutes, by developing and managing statistics analytical capacity for research efforts across the university and helping to promote good statistical practice throughout the academic enterprise. This is is a rare opportunity to lead and enhance the Laboratory for Interdisciplinary Statistical Analysis, whose roots go back to 1948.

Statisticians whose research and experience straddle or transcend traditional academic boundaries are especially encouraged to apply.

Expectations for this position include: leading, managing, and expanding a highly visible, vigorous statistical consulting and collaboration program; effectively developing and facilitating collaborative relationships throughout the university; providing effective instruction to a diverse population of graduate students, which typically consists of: (a) teaching one class per year focused on statistical consulting and collaboration and (b) training students to serve as effective consultants and collaborators in LISA; continuing development of professional capabilities; participation in department, college, and university governance; and professional service.
