  • 1.  Report to ASA Board

I presented your committee report to the ASA Board earlier this month. The Board would like to thank the committee members for all their work on the committee. They are interested in seeing what you will do with your focus on collaboration.  The committee report was before and separate from the discussion on the member initiative.  During the committee report to the Board, the Board wondered if the work would focus on how to become an effective collaborator or how to develop a network to collaborate with other statisticians who faced the same issues.

    Dear Jeri,

Thank you for relaying the Board's acknowledgment of our work.  It was fortunate that our mentoring initiative work dovetailed with David Morganstein's President's initiative on mentoring lead by Eric Vance.  We are excited to move onto collaboration

We want give statisticians' tools to expand their role as a collaborator in projects.  Many statisticians just think of their role as doing the statistical analysis.  They could be involved from helping develop the initial problem through writing, reporting, and communicating all parts of a project or research paper.  We hope to find best practices of collaboration, develop a clearinghouse of collaboration resources, and institute those practices in workshops and as a unit in the graduate and undergraduate statistics curricula and service statistics courses, to help researchers understand how to make best use of a statistician.

    Best wishes,

    Mark Otto
