Notes from 02June2011 Membership Council Committee Meeting
F2F meeting - ASA will review special requests for face to face meetings. If CAS members are interested we can submit a request to meet at ASA headquarters in spring 2013.
Please be sure to renew your membership. Keeping membership current is a requirement of committee members.
ASA leadership asks: How do we motivate committee members to volunteer? Ideas that were proposed include:
- An appreciation note from ASA President-elect? ASA President?
- Public acknowledgement in the AMSTAT News?
What motivates you to serve on and contribute to the work of CAS?
Member Initiative Proposals
- Five out of 7 proposals were recommended for funding by the Board.
- Video recorded Interview with Prof. J. Stuart Hunter - Contributions of Industrial Statisticians
- Conference on "What Statistics Should Do for Public Policy"
- Workshop to plan a "Women in Statistics" conference
- Statistical education in the Pacific Islands
- Pre-JSM Diversity Workshop and Mentoring Programs (Future support of this workshop should be considered in 2012 budget discussion.)
2012 President elect initiatives
- Plan a workgroup to contact a variety of business and government stakeholders on their needs of Masters-level statistical work forces and to help assist Masters program planning.
- Convene a small Steering Committee to plan ASA 175th anniversary celebration in 2014.
- Establish a workgroup to create tools and develop procedures to facilitate communication among ASA members
- Understand the business analytics world; help our students better prepare for a career in this world; retain them as members of the ASA
