Argentine Commerce Secretary Guillermo Moreno, who prosecuted former INDEC CPI director Graciela Bevacqua and others, has been charged with abusing his power by fining and pursuing legal action against individuals who publish independent inflation data. Judge Claudio Bonadio said Moreno’s actions was “nothing other than an effort to silence” experts who were releasing public information in the form of technical data that challenges the government’s official inflation rate. The judge also filed similar charges against two lower-ranking officials.
