    Luncheon Announcement

    TUESDAY, April 27, 2009
    The East Bank Club,
    500 N. Kingsbury, Chicago 60610

Please join us for another exciting talk in the CCASA's 2009-2010 Luncheon program!

Our April speaker is Joseph Kang, PhD, Assistant Professor at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine, who will be speaking about Causality Models.

Dr. Kang's current research involves a variety of statistical issues arising in non-randomized observational studies, with particular emphasis on the causal inference of the effects of naturalistic lifestyles such as diet behaviors and physical activities on various cardiovascular diseases outcomes. One area of interest in statistical methods is combining parsimonious classification model of naturalistic behaviors and the lifetime outcome model of cardiovascular diseases. Dr. Kang is also interested in developing a methodological framework to infer causal links between gene expression, lifestyle behaviors and incidence of cardiovascular disease.

Plans for our future luncheons will be included in our upcoming announcements and in the Parameter.

Lunch is $30 for CCASA members, $35 for non-members. Non-members, join the chapter for a year for only $15 and get the discount plus all of the other benefits of membership! As usual, the LucileDerrick Fund will purchase a limited number of tickets for students who wish to attend. 2010 U.S. Census - Low Turnout Expected From Illinois Tri-State Region

Because the Illinois Tri-State region (Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin) had low response rates for the 2000 Census, second questionnaires were mailed out last week. Chicago, however, was among the regions with the best response rates. The U.S. Census Bureau hopes to cut down the estimated $2.7 billion cost of sending census takers to households in previous low-turnout areas.
