Graduate Programs in Econometrics and Psychometrics

Below are the U.S. universities granting graduate degrees in psychometrics and econometrics from 2010-2013 as reported to the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES). Since we know there are many more psychometrics programs and econometrics programs across the U.S., one can assume that universities (and specifically their institutional research offices) are not categorizing psychometrics and econometrics degrees using the NCES CIP codes:

42.2708     Psychometrics and Quantitative Psychology
45.0603     Econometrics and Quantitative Economics

The APA Report of the Task Force for Increasing the Number of Quantitative Psychologists reported the number of PhD's in quantitative psychology mostly in the range of 20-30 for 1980-2005 (see p. 48), based on the NSF data.

I looked up these programs in response to a comment on my July 2014 blog, Categorization of Statistics Degrees through CIP Codes and Growth in Statistics-Related Degrees, suggesting that I also looked at the statistics-intensive programs of econometrics and psychometrics.

Steve, with the exception of Columbia and probably Rutgers in econometrics, and Fordham in psychometrics, these are the weirdest lists of quant social science programs. But I guess these are the programs that chose to report their graduates in the proper categories; other programs just gave them the generic host discipline label. UCSD is a top notch econometrics programs, and generally the recognized top 3 Econ MIT/Chicago/Harvard produce a steady stream of econometricians. UNC Chapel Hill (go heels!), UIUC, UCLA are typically recognized as the top psychometrics and quantitative psychology programs in psych departments, and UGA, in educational psychology (school of education rather than A&S). That these programs did not make the list suggest a very heavy undercount.

Thanks for looking into this. I guess we need to educate the department chairs of the allied disciplines of the need to code their graduates properly, as we can't get a decent workforce picture if they don't.
