Statistics for environmental remediation

I am trying to get a feeling for how many people in this group (and who) practices or teaches statistics related to the characterization and remediation of polluted sites. I tried posting a discussion item but found it awkward in that I got several (noreply) replies very quickly but could not easily answer them. I'm hoping that comments on this blog entry will be visible and can be a starting point for discussion. If you don't mind too much, could you post your reply as a comment to this entry?

Thanks,
John

John
There are several ASA members in our company (http://www.neptuneandco.com/) and much of our work involves environmental remediation. Personally I have been working in the area since 1987 when I doing environmental statistics funded by an EPA Cooperative Agreement Grant at Montana State Univ.

Hi, John.
I worked for nearly 20 years in the area of environmental characterization and remediation for Battelle in Columbus, Ohio. Early on, most of my work was with soil characterization and groundwater contamination. More recently, I have been involved with contaminated sediments. I have been a regular presenter at Battelle's Remediation conferences. I no longer work for Battelle, but I still have interest in environmental pollution problems.

Hi John,
I have worked in the field of environmental statistics since the mid-1980's and was involved in assessing cleanup at Love Canal. In the mid-1990's I wrote software geared toward environmental monitoring and remediation - it was an add-in module for S+ called EnvironmentalStats. There is an associated User's Manual published by Springer-Verlag and a textbook published by CRC Press. I am in the process of porting this package to R and hope to post it to CRAN within the next couple of months. I am updating the associated User's Manual, and Phil Dixon, Nagaraj Neerchal, and I are in the process of updating the textbook. Let me know if you have questions.
