Every spring it is our election season in May/June.
Each year, we are seeking a candidate to run for our VP/President/Chapter Rep. office. This is a three-year office term. This officer is more concerned with the short-term plans of the chapter as opposed to the Directors who have the longer-term vision in mind and the Secretary/Treasurer who is responsible for day-to-day operations. But, obviously, there is a lot of synergy between these roles.
First year: As VP, this year is about learning how the chapter does things within our limited budget while working with ASA and our academic/industry/government partners. And to be there if the President is unable to perform their duties (for example, we have had Presidents resign mainly due to re-location).
Second year: As the President, you will have great latitude in planning the annual meeting: the location, the topic, the speaker(s), etc. This is your chance to do whatever it is that you have always wanted the chapter to do!
Third year: As Chapter Rep., attend the Council of Chapters meeting at JSM then report back to your fellow officers. You will receive a reimbursement for your JSM registration after showing that you attended the Council of Chapters meeting. And, you will work with the other officers to give the benefit of your advice for the good of the chapter.
