Dear fellow ASA Members and friends,
I'm reaching out to ask for your support in a matter that affects the transparency and integrity of our nation's economic data.
Recently, Erika McEntarfer, the former Commissioner of the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), was removed from her position under circumstances that many see as politically motivated. During her tenure, Dr. McEntarfer upheld the Bureau's longstanding reputation for nonpartisan, data-driven reporting-an essential service that informs everything from public policy to business decisions to everyday understanding of our economy.
This action threatens the independence of one of our most trusted federal statistical agencies.
If you value unbiased, accurate data-and believe that career experts should not be removed for political reasons-I urge you to contact your congressional representatives and ask them to advocate for Erika McEntarfer's reinstatement.
You can find your representatives and their contact information here: https://www.congress.gov/members
When writing, be respectful, brief, and emphasize the importance of protecting the integrity of federal data.
If you'd like a sample message to start with, I'm happy to provide one.
Thank you for your time and I hope you can join me and others in this effort.
In solidarity,
Michael Jadoo
