ASA's Membership Council works closely with the ASA Executive Board to execute the ASA mission and the ASA President's agenda. In her January 2025 President's Corner in AmstatNews, President Ji-Hyun Lee notes: Our work as statisticians has never been more critical. We stand at the intersection of science and society. Now more than ever, advancing our shared vision of a world that relies on data and statistical thinking to drive discovery and inform decision-making is critical. The ASA Membership Council committees are excited to work with President Lee in 2025.
The Membership Council consists of 9 Committees:
● Committee on Applied Statisticians (CAS)
● Committee on Career Development (CCD)
● Committee on International Relations in Statistics (CIRS)
● Committee on Membership Retention and Recruitment (CMRR)
● Committee on Minorities in Statistics (CoMiS)
● Committee on Statistics and Disability (CSD)
● Committee on Women in Statistics (CoWis)
● JSM Committee on Continuing Education (JSM CCE)
● Statistical Partnerships Among Academe, Industry, and Government Committee (SPAIG)
The MC Committees will host and coordinate events and initiatives throughout 2025. These include webinars on topics such as Job Hunting and Career Development (CCD); Learning Non-Statisticians Skills to Succeed on the Job (CAS); Networking, Job Seeking, and Upskilling (CoWiS); and Cross-sector Collaborations and internships (SPAIG). Committee initiatives also include journal and AmstatNews articles on ASA benefits (CMRR) and overviews for the 35th anniversary of the American Disabilities Act (CSD); as well as mentoring programs (CoMiS, CAS) and opportunities for continued education (JSM CCE). The MC also coordinates on ASA awards: the Gertrude Cox award (CoWiS), the Educational Ambassador Program (CIRS) and the SPAIG award.
The MC's Spring Newsletter is attached with fuller details and resources. Look for JSM-themed MC updates later this summer.
