    The Department of Statistics, Actuarial and Data Sciences is pleased to invite you to participate in the second event of our 2022-2023 Data Science Speaker Series.

    Title:                            Commercializing Data Science for Small Business – An End-to-End DFY Data Science Solution

    Abstract: Of the 17MM businesses in the United States alone, over 13MM of them are small businesses supporting less than 50 employees and generating less than 5MM in revenue.  With the emergence of the data science discipline and availability of data, the savvy small business owner can now engage big data as if they were a big company. FindalyticsTM will be one of the first to enable small business with end-to-end, DFY big data. Data science will no longer only be available to the those with big money.  This presentation will discuss the concept, architecture and business model for FindalyticsTM.

     Brief BIO:  Tim is the Chief Data Scientist for PV360 where he designed and built a unique predictive analytics environment called Findalytics.  Leveraging various cloud based and open-source analytics technologies, Findalytics enables small businesses to use data science in an "End to End" DFY framework.  Previously, Tim was Director of Advanced Analytics with Steelcase.  Before Steelcase he was the Competency Director of Advanced Analytics at the Dow Chemical Company. A SAS user since 1979 and a JMP user since 1986, he specialized in JMP, SAS Enterprise Guide, SAS/STAT, SAS/ETS, SAS Enterprise Miner, and SAS FS. Tim is an expert in R and Knime as well as a Python user. He was the co-chair of M2008 and F2010, and also presented keynote addresses at PBLS 2007, M2007, and A2007 Europe. While at Dow, he was instrumental in helping Dow attain Information Week's 2012 Innovator Award for the application of Advanced Analytics.  Tim has published/co-authored 24 refereed papers, 29 conference talks, 13 Invited talks (primarily universities), along with 100 internal Dow reports and white papers. He has also co-authored two books as well as a chapter in two other books. He received his M.S. in Forestry Biometrics (Statistics) from Michigan State University.
