    The Department of Statistics and Operations Research at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, seeks to hire three new faculty members with strong teaching and research credentials in any area of the department's expertise relevant to the theory and applications of data science including machine learning. The appointments are expected to be at the level of assistant professor though one may be at associate professor level. These positions are expected to start July 1, 2022.

    The department is organized around four areas: theoretical and applied statistics; probability; stochastic modeling; and optimization. We welcome candidates with interests in any one of these areas. The potential for interaction across areas in the department and the university will be a positive factor in the consideration of candidates.     Candidates must possess a PhD in Statistics, Operations Research, or a closely related field by the start date of the appointment. The Department is seeking candidates who have demonstrated interest in timely areas of application, with strong theoretical training, and the potential to maintain an excellent research program. The successful candidates will be comfortable with teaching courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels in the department at the intersection of their expertise and the needs of the department. We will begin considering candidates after November 8, 2021, and will continue accepting applications until the positions are filled.

Applicants should also arrange for four letters of recommendation. At least one of the letters should include an evaluation of the applicant's teaching ability.
