R-authority postdoc to work on the EPA CARES project at the Chapel Hill Branch.  The postdoc applications will close on May 2nd.

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to support an inter-disciplinary collaborative project that will use electronic health records to understand the effects of pollution mixtures on cardiovascular function and mortality. Use of administrative health records, vital records, and regularly collected health surveillance data provide unique opportunities to address numerous critical policy relevant research questions which would otherwise be impossible to study. This position will include the use of the Carolina Data Warehouse (CDW), which contains health records from affiliated hospitals in North Carolina, to understand the association between air pollution and cardiovascular mortality and morbidity. Using the millions of health records within the CDW allows sufficient sample size to examine these associations both in the overall population as well as relevant subgroups such as individuals with a prior history of cardiovascular disease. It also allows the examination of risk factors including medication and comorbidities. The position may also include the use of electronic health records to understand the health impacts on communities from contaminated sites such as Brownfields or Superfund sites, and the health benefits derived from their restoration and revitalization. Methods development to further environmental epidemiology is encouraged.
