As part of the Preparing Future Faculty (PFF) Postdoctoral Program for Faculty Diversity program at the University of Missouri, the Department of Statistics is seeking applicants who are interested in working in spatio-temporal statistics for demography, official statistics, quantitative social science, or related areas. The postdoc will be mentored by Professors Chris Wikle and Scott Holan. The attached announcement describes the broader program and application procedure (application deadline: 11:59 PM (Central time), December 1, 2019.)
The specific research focus can be tailored to the applicant. Dynamic spatio-temporal modeling for statistical demography is an important societal and research topic bridging several disciplines, including statistics, quantitative social science, and data science. As an example, one of the grand challenges in this area is to understand demographic shifts across various race/ethnicity and gender categories, particularly those groups for which traditional surveys have tended to measure with a large uncertainty. One potential project would focus on dynamic spatio-temporal statistical modeling that can help to identify trends and patterns in these types of data in the presence of uncertainty, by leveraging innovative statistical and data science methodology. Thus, this postdoc will advance the benefits of a diverse educational and research/creative work environment at Mizzou by contributing to an innovative research program that is focused on a quantifiable greater understanding traditionally underrepresented demographic shifts.
Candidates should follow the application instructions in the attached announcement and, in addition, email a current CV to wiklec@missouri.edu and holans@missouri.edu.
Interested applicants are encouraged to contact Chris Wikle at wiklec@missouri.edu to discuss the goals of the broader postdoc program and its integration with specific research aims, or any facet of the position.
