    Dear all,

    The Rochester Chapter of the ASA is pleased to inform you of our next monthly meeting on Monday, February 21, 2022 at 6:30pm EST. During this meeting, we will feature a 15-minute short talk by Dr. Tony Wong (RIT) and his previous REU student Matthew Dunham (CSU Monterey Bay). We would like to invite all interested fellow statisticians and ASA members to attend this mini talk. There will be other agenda items discussed afterwards that may be of most interest to the Rochester and geographically local chapters.

    • Mini-talk by Dr. Tony Wong (RIT) & Matthew Dunham (CSU Monterey Bay) (abstract below)
    • DataFest: Report and call for participation by Ahmed Toslim and Jason
    • Student Chapters and Clubs: Report and Updates from Ariel (U of R) and Ahmed and Jason (RIT)
    • UPSTAT 2022@SUNYBuffalo: The conference will be held at the great SUNY Buffalo from May 2-4, 2022. It will be in Hybrid format with most sessions streaming online for the convenience of all. Also included will be the UPSTAT Data Analytics Competition.
    • Buzz around the Chapter: Harnessing our presence online through all the media (Twitter, Instagram, etc.)
    • Planning for an Invited Speaker to our Chapter: Discussion on themes you would like to have a big shot speaker come and talk to us (Causal Inference, Machine Learning, etc.)

    Mini-Talk Abstract:

    The Functionality of Student Interviews and Artifacts in Assessing Computational Literacy
    Dr. Tony Wong (RIT) & Matthew Dunham

    In this mini-talk, we will discuss the theory behind computational literacy, including how it adds to other frameworks like Computational Thinking. We will describe how we used interviews with students and faculty, scaffolded by student computational course work in Jupyter notebooks, to assess students' development of their Computational Literacy.
