Operations Research Analyst
CDC is seeking highly motivated candidates for two, full-time permanent Operations Research Analysts, GS-1515-13, with primary responsibilities related to supporting the Division's mathematical modeling portfolio. This job is open to both current FTEs and to the public (details below).
Major Duties:
- Analyzes, designs, and conducts simulation modeling, economic evaluations, and cost analyses to assess public health policies and strategies.
- Conducts studies to evaluate, inform, and improve decision-analytic models.
- Designs, develops, and adapts operations research, mathematical, econometric, simulation, and forecasting methods and techniques to policies and strategies related to public health, and serves as a resource to others on these activities.
- Plans, directs, and conducts public health-related studies, reviews other studies, provides suggestions on ways to improve the assessment of information, and applies findings (so that public health-related strategies and policies can be improved or new methods can be implemented).
- Develops simulation and economic models to describe how interventions may affect public health.
Qualifications:
- Background Investigation is required.
- Applicants must have a bachelor's degree in operations research; or at least 24 semester hours in a combination of operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, mathematical logic, science, or subject-matter courses requiring substantial competence in college-level mathematics or statistics. At least 3 of the 24 semester hours must have been in calculus.
- Applicants must have one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level of difficulty and responsibility in the Federal service, to include skills and experience in any of the following: analyzing, designing, or conducting comprehensive quantitative studies for public health. Note that "Experience" refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience if included in your application.
CDC's Division of HIV/AIDS Prevention is charged with the mission of preventing HIV infection and reducing the incidence of HIV-related illness and death. The persons selected will work closely with other staff on the Prevention, Modeling, and Economics Team, in the Division, and in other CIOs.
