    Assistant/Associate Professor of Teaching, Statistics

    The Department of Statistics at the University of California, Riverside invites applications for a 9-month Assistant or Associate Professor of Teaching position beginning July 1, 2019. An assistant teaching professor appointment is similar to a regular tenure-track assistant professor appointment and follows a parallel track, including regular, rigorous performance reviews and a tenure process that, if successful, leads to a tenured appointment.  Candidates with exceptional experience have the option to apply for an Associate Professor of Teaching position, which would come with tenure.

    The Teaching Professor series is aimed at individuals who desire to focus on the development and implementation of modern and innovative teaching approaches, professional activities, university and public service, and scholarly work that may emphasize statistics education.  Duties will include, teaching 6 quarter-based courses per year, curricular development, innovation in undergraduate teaching, supervision of teaching assistants, and participation in undergraduate research and other enrichment programs for the statistics and data science major.  Particular topics of teaching will include introductory statistics, exploratory data analysis, machine learning, big data processing, data visualization, data science, and software technologies such as R, SAS, Tableau, SQL and Python. A Ph.D. in Statistics or a related field is required at the time of employment.  Demonstrated potential for effective teaching and scholarly work in educational research is a preferred qualification for the Assistant level position.  Proven track record in effective teaching and evidence of scholarly work in educational research are preferred qualifications for the Associate level position.  Salary will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
