    Located in Newton, adjacent to the Newton-Needham Innovation District and the tech-focused Route 128 corridor, The Mount Ida Campus of UMass Amherst is the Greater Boston instructional location of the Commonwealth's flagship campus.     Job Description:

    The Department of Mathematics and Statistics (www.math.umass.edu) at the Mount Ida campus of the University of Massachusetts Amherst seeks an academic-year (9-month), full-time Lecturer with expertise in statistics to teach graduate courses starting in Fall 2020 (standard teaching load two master's level courses per semester) with an initial appointment of one year. Lecturers at UMass Amherst enjoy significant benefits and status under the negotiated faculty contract, including potential for an open-ended appointment with just-cause protection after four years and a promotion ladder to Senior Lecturer and Senior Lecturer II (see Article 21 of the MSP/MTA/NEA contract linked on this page: http://www.umass.edu/provost/faculty-staff-resources/policies-contracts). The Lecturer will join a team of faculty noted for excellence and innovation in graduate and undergraduate education. The successful candidate will teach courses at the graduate level. This position will work with faculty and advising staff to assess student outcomes and foster student success.

    Other Functions

    • Work collaboratively and effectively to promote teamwork, diversity, equality and inclusiveness. 
    • Work in partnership with colleagues within the CNS community and across the campus to support the Dean's strategic priorities.
    • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the mission and goals of the College of Natural Sciences.

    Minimum Requirements

    • A PhD degree in statistics or a closely related field is required.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Ideally, candidates will have experience in teaching statistics at the graduate level, be knowledgeable of course design, assessment methods and teaching strategies and be skilled at implementing best practices in the use of emerging pedagogical applications.
    • Desired skills and experience include at least one of the following: development of computational statistics and statistical data science-related graduate courses, designing and teaching such courses in online and hybrid formats and advising students.
