The University of Chicago in partnership with Michigan State University is launching a three-year summer institute in advanced research methods for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics education research (SIARM for STEM) funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF). The institute focuses on developing new and diverse leadership among STEM education researchers and those making research endeavors to promote STEM learning among students from underrepresented backgrounds. The web link is https://voices.uchicago.edu/nsf-siarm/.

We are beginning the process of selecting a diverse cohort of 22 NSF Fellows of STEM Education Research among early- and mid-career scholars. Fellows will gain knowledge about cutting-edge advanced quantitative and computational methods--including research designs and causal inference, measurement, multilevel modeling, social network analysis, causal mediation analysis, and computation for large-scale data. They will develop rigorous and novel applications to their own research projects, will receive continuous support in research planning, data analysis, and publication, and will network with a diverse group of leaders in STEM education research. Those who are interested in this NSF fellowship should complete an Expression of Interest form on our website: https://apply-grad.uchicago.edu/register/SIARMforSTEM.

PIs: Guanglei Hong, Stephen Raudenbush, and Yanyan Sheng at the University of Chicago; Ken Frank, Kaitlin Torphy, and Jiliang Tang at Michigan State University

Please share the information (and the attached flyer) with potentially interested parties within your professional network. Questions about the institute may be directed to our contact person Aasha Francis at afrancis1@uchicago.edu.
