NSF Harnessing the Data Revolution: Deadline Updates and Webinar

  • 1.  NSF Harnessing the Data Revolution: Deadline Updates and Webinar

    Posted 02-05-2019 07:49
    Dear Colleagues,

I would like to call your attention to important changes to the deadlines for two solicitations of interest to the mathematical and statistical communities. These changes in the deadlines are due to the recent 35-day lapse in appropriations and shutdown of the agency. In addition, NSF has scheduled a webinar providing an overview of the current Harnessing the Data Revolution (HDR) funding opportunities.

HDR is part of the 10 Big Ideas for Future NSF Investments and many of you are already familiar with the Transdisciplinary Research in Principles of Data Science Phase I (TRIPODS) awards, which were NSF's first major investment toward HDR. The initial 12 projects brought together the statistics, mathematics and theoretical computer science communities to develop the foundations of data science.

The two new initiatives announced in FY2019 are part of HDR and likewise seek to foster collaborations between scientists and engineers working on important data-intensive science and engineering problems and data scientists, e.g., computer and computational scientists, mathematicians, statisticians, and information scientists with expertise in different aspects of modeling and data analysis as well as systems and cyberinfrastructure specialists with expertise in open source software development, reproducibility, and transfer learning.

These initiatives should be of particular interest to the Applied Mathematics, Computational Mathematics, Mathematical Biology, and Statistics communities with their emphasis on data science tools including signal and image processing, visualization, statistical modeling and inference, machine learning, and optimization.

I highly encourage the mathematics and statistics communities to join us at the webinar to learn more about the HDR funding opportunities.

     ----------------------------------------------------------

NSF's Harnessing the Data Revolution (HDR) is a national-scale activity to enable new modes of data-driven discovery that will allow fundamental questions to be asked and answered at the frontiers of science and engineering. The HDR vision is realized through an interrelated set of activities and funding opportunities.  Each of these efforts is designed to amplify the intrinsically multidisciplinary nature of the emerging field of data science.
