The University of Massachusetts Amherst is starting a new M.S. option in Statistics at the satellite Mount Ida campus in Newton (just outside Boston) in Fall, 2019.

Job Description

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics (www.math.umass.edu) at the University of Massachusetts Amherst invites applications for a part-time Lecturer (standard teaching load one master's level course per semester) with expertise in statistics to teach graduate courses at the new University of Massachusetts Mount Ida campus in Newton, Massachusetts. The part-time Lecturer will join a team of faculty noted for excellence and innovation in undergraduate and graduate education. The successful candidate will teach courses at the graduate level and will work with faculty and advising staff to assess student outcomes and foster student success.

Other Functions

• Work collaboratively and effectively to promote teamwork, diversity, equality and inclusiveness. 
• Work in partnership with colleagues within the CNS community and across the campus to support the Dean's strategic priorities.
• Perform other duties as assigned in support of the mission and goals of the College of Natural Sciences.

Minimum Requirements

• A PhD degree in statistics or a closely related field is required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ideally, candidates will have experience in teaching statistics at the graduate level, be knowledgeable of course design, assessment methods and teaching strategies and be skilled at implementing best practices in the use of emerging pedagogical applications.
• Desired skills and experience include at least one of the following: development of computational statistics and statistical data science-related graduate courses, designing and teaching such courses in online and hybrid formats and advising students.
