FINAL CALL FOR PARTICIPATION: The 35th New England Statistics Symposium (May 22 - May 25)

The Department of Statistics of the University of Connecticut (UConn) is proud to host the 35th New England Statistics Symposium (NESS) on May 22 - 25, 2022. As an annual event, the symposium has brought statisticians from all over New England and beyond to a central location to share research, discuss emerging issues in the field, and network with colleagues since it was first started at UConn in 1987. The symposium flyers can be downloaded at https://symposium.nestat.org/index.html.

    Registration

The number of registrations has reached 430. Registration for virtual participation is still open until May 16, 2022. Short course-only registration is allowed. Please visit https://symposium.nestat.org/registration.php.

    Format & Schedule

The symposium will be hybrid, with in-person parts held at Storrs (UConn campus) and all sessions broadcast live via Zoom and Whova. The symposium schedule is available at https://symposium.nestat.org/session-schedule.html.

    Highlights

    • There will be 7 short courses taught by an all-star lineup that cover a spectrum of topics in statistics and data science, including clinical trial designs with the use of RWD, statistical learning with neuroimaging data, programing with NIMBLE, applied event time data analysis, machine learning with large health data, and statistical topics on outcome research.
    • There will be three keynote sessions. Two keynote presentations will be given by Dr. Jeff Leek from John Hopkins and Dr. Susan Murphy from Harvard. We are also excited to have a Keynote Panel Session on Covid-19 vaccine development, with panelists that are statistical leaders from major vaccine producers, government agencies, and academic institutions.
    • A banquet talk will be given by Dr. Xiao-Li Meng, the Founding President of the New England Statistical Society. A Chernoff Lecture will be delivered by the recipient of the Chernoff Excellence in Statistics Award. Dr. Katherine Ensor, President of ASA, will make an opening remark and participate in our career panel.
    • Our program committee is joined by more than 40 members from various institutions and companies in the New England area and beyond, who have created a high-quality scientific program with more than 50 invited sessions.

We look forward to having an interesting and vibrant symposium!

    Best,
    Kun
