City use of Federal Data

I need help from those who produce Federal Statistical Data used by U.S. cities and counties as they create or execute local policies. In the upcoming Joint Statistical Meetings, I will present a paper titled Rockville's use of Federal Statistical Data. I am on the City Council for Rockville, MD and I find myself using federal data that at one time I helped produce.

First I want to identify all possible federal data sources that cities and counties could use (this request). Second, I will meet with City staffers to determine which of these sources they use and how they use them. Some data sources are obvious such as the Decennial Census and the American Community Survey. Others are less obvious. We use the CPI, but a City staffer would not know that the Consumer Expenditure Survey is one of the sources.

If you could send information to MMP@MMPSurveyServices.com and (1) name the data source (survey name, administrative records, or other source) and (2) how a City staffer might know of these data, I would greatly appreciate it. I will summarize and make available the results of this query. Program areas include city planning, housing, environment, transportation, population and demographics, labor and pay rates, cost of living, finance, retirement, water, sewer, refuse, and recycling among others. Our county does education and state social programs. I will cross post this request to AAPORNet. Thank you.
