Subject line: Call for comments on proposed procedures to determine whether ASA makes public statement on policy-related issues.

    Dear Colleagues,

The ASA Scientific and Public Affairs Advisory Committee (SPAAC) is proposing a procedure for guiding ASA's determination on whether it makes public statements on various policy-related issues. Our goal is for the ASA to have a process that is transparent, open, and objective. Our request is occasioned by the increasing volume and breadth of requests for ASA's views.  The March issue of Amstat News has a call for your comments on the proposed process, drafted by SPAAC, from the committee's chair and vice-chair, Larry Hedges and Avi Feller: https://magazine.amstat.org/blog/2021/03/01/asa-pub-statement-policy/

I write to encourage your review and comments, which can be sent to Steve Pierson (pierson@amstat.org) by March 31 (but preferably sooner). Our hope is for the ASA board to consider the proposed process at one of its upcoming meetings.

    Thank you for your participation,
    Katherine Wallman
