Title: Some Thoughts on AIG from a Canadian Perspective
Authors: Nancy Reid* and David Alexander Campbell (University of Toronto and Simon Fraser University)
Abstract: In 1999 the mathematical and statistical sciences community launched the research network Mitacs (The Mathematics of Information Technology and Complex Systems), dedicated to advancing collaborations between industry, academia and government. In the years since then it has developed into a very large program funded by the federal government and 10 provincial governments -- the national delivery vehicle for industry research internships for postgraduate students in Canada, and admired and emulated around the world. Against this background we'll describe current activities in academic, industry and government collaborations at the Canadian Statistical Sciences Institute, and our experiences with Mitacs programs and with NSERC's Engage program. We will highlight some successes and failures, and seek feedback from the audience on how to sustain and grow these collaborations.
