The Statistics in Epidemiology (SIE) Section of the American Statistical Association invites you to join a Speed Mentoring Breakfast event at the 2017 JSM!

Recognizing that it can be helpful for junior statisticians to gather feedback and advice not only from within an institution but also from outside it, we established a mentoring program in 2016. This year at JSM in Baltimore, we are happy to introduce a special breakfast event for people who are interested in participating in the SIE mentoring program as either mentors or mentees. The goal of the breakfast event is to accelerate and enhance the matchmaking process of the mentoring program through brief face-to-face meetings.

We seek 16 volunteer mentors and 16 volunteer mentees from the SIE membership to participate in the speed mentoring breakfast. Mentees are individuals who wish to grow professionally through a one-on-one professional relationship with a senior statistician as a mentor.   Benefits include receiving guidance on professional growth, the opportunity to be introduced to a broader network of statisticians with similar interests, and to potentially develop collaborative research relationships. Mentors should be supportive individuals who have experience working with and mentoring junior statisticians. Mentors should be willing to build a long-term relationship by offering guidance, support, and encouragement to cultivate the mentees' career development. We seek applicants with extensive experience in mentoring junior statisticians or graduate students.

This speed mentoring breakfast will be hold on Monday, 7:00~ 8:30 AM, July 31, 2017 in the Baltimore Convention Center. Interested mentors and mentees should complete the following form: Registration Form and send their CV to siementoring@gmail.com by Monday, June 19, 2017. Applicants must be SIE members. A confirmation letter with detailed information of the event will be sent before JSM to the selected applicants.  After the meeting, mentors and mentees will be matched based on feedback from their brief one-to-one meetings and overlap of their research interests.
