How States Use Data and Evidence for Policymaking: Current Trends and Future Opportunities

    WHEN: Tuesday, July 24, 2018 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. ET

In recent years, policymakers at both the federal and state levels have made important strides in advancing the use of evidence-based policymaking. The federal Commission on Evidence-Based Policymaking reported bipartisan recommendations for improving the use of federal data in September 2017, and recognized the critical role states play in making data available and useful for generating evidence. Many states, through gubernatorial and legislative initiatives, have increased evidence capacity in recent years and now more routinely incorporate the use of tools-such as cost-benefit and cost-effectiveness analysis-into their decision-making. But, both federal and state policymakers face significant challenges and limits in expanding the use of data to support evidence-based policymaking more widely.

Please join BPC and The Pew Charitable Trusts for an event that will pull together experts and stakeholders to discuss state challenges, successes, and practical lessons in the use of data and evidence to engage in informed policymaking.
