    Apologies for cross-posting….

I am writing to inform you about two student contests to be held as part of the Sixth International Conference on Establishment Statistics (ICES‑VI) on June 15 - 18, 2020, in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA: a non-response treatment contest and an analysis/visualization contest.  Details on both contests are available at ww2.amstat.org\meetings\ices\2020\studentcontest.cfm.

The International Conference on Establishment Statistics (ICES) promotes discussion on a broad range of issues related to statistics on businesses, farms or institutions. ICES features invited and contributed papers and demonstrations from around the globe that highlight new, improved and upcoming methodologies and technologies for establishment statistics using census data, administrative data, and sample survey data. Participants come from academia, government statistical agencies, private business, and statistical associations.

The student contests will create interest and innovation in the establishment statistics field by inspiring students and the faculty they work with to create and present to the contest committee interesting and challenging applications that test their technical skill and creativity. Given the winner of each contest will present their research at ICES-VI, the winner is provided with unique and invaluable international learning experience. The contest winners will receive $1,500 (USD) to be used toward registration and/or travel expenses to attend and present their paper.

Contest participants must be a current undergraduate or graduate student at any level or a recent graduate that has held a degree for one year or less as of June 2020. They may work independently or with a student group. However, travel expenses and registration will only be awarded to one author, and the paper must be presented at the conference by one of the student participants. Participants are expected to carry out this assignment autonomously. Contributions from faculty advisors, if any, should be made clear in the report, as well as their expertise.

Please encourage your eligible students to take advantage of this opportunity. Participants will need to submit their final report by February 15, 2020.  The winners will be notified in March 2020.

In addition to this, if your organization would be interested in sponsoring the contest by contributing to the prize amount, we would be pleased to recognize your generosity in our conference materials.

If you have questions concerning these contests, you can contact ices@amstat.org. Use the subject line "Student Contest: Inquiry."
