Associate Director, Kinder Houston Area Survey
The Kinder Institute for Urban Research at Rice University is seeking an extraordinary individual to come on board as the Associate Director of the Kinder Houston Area Survey.
The Kinder Institute is a "think-and-do" tank focused on urban issues in Houston, the American Sun Belt, and beyond. For almost 40 years, under the direction of Dr. Stephen L. Klineberg, the Kinder Houston Area Survey has been the pre-eminent annual public opinion survey in an American city. It is an extremely high-profile survey in Houston and serves as the model for many other urban public opinion surveys around the nation.
The Kinder Institute now seeks an Associate Director to assist with the survey, expand its scope, and possibly take over as Director of the Survey in the future. Our goal is to maximize the influence of the Survey and possibly expand its scope. This expansion could include specialized surveys and reports on different topics and populations, and surveys covering other Texas cities. The Kinder Institute believes expansion potential is great.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced Survey Researcher with outstanding presentation skills. In addition to overseeing the Annual Survey in conjunction with Dr. Klineberg, the successful candidate will serve as a high-profile presenter in the Houston community, which greatly values the findings from the Kinder Houston Area Survey. The successful candidate will be deeply engaged in the role cities and metropolitan areas play in demographic and economic trends and will be expected to immerse himself or herself in understanding Houston, one of the nation's largest, fastest-growing, most dynamic, and most diverse cities.
A Ph.D. is preferred but not required. This position is a non-tenured staff position at the Kinder Institute, reporting to the Director of the Institute. The successful candidate may also serve as an Adjunct Professor in the School of Social Sciences at Rice University, teaching survey methods.
