    Hello ASA Connect community,

After a break for the new year, the Section on Statistical Consulting is sponsoring a new webinar in a little over a week! We reached out to Dr. Christine Gause of Merck & Co., Inc., in response to a request from section members to discuss consulting in the industry environment. She leads a team of more than 30 statisticians and has worked on many cross-functional teams in her work, and is an excellent person to provide this webinar.

Information about this webinar is below, and you can register for the webinar at this link:

The webinar will be held on Thursday, February 27 at 12:30 pm Eastern, and you must register before Tuesday 2/25 at noon Eastern time.

Please let me know if you have any questions about this webinar, or any requests for future webinars!

    Title

The Industry Statistician as an Internal Consultant:  Providing More than Just a Sample Size

    Abstract

Statisticians working on clinical studies in the pharmaceutical industry need to collaborate with multiple colleagues in cross-functional teams to develop drugs and vaccines in a timely manner.  Crucial collaborations with clinicians, regulatory colleagues, and other scientists who have essential knowledge of drug and vaccine products for the disease area under study are of great importance to advance the company's pipeline while ensuring key questions of scientific interest are answered in a robust and reliable manner.  With the increasing complexity of analysis methods, statisticians working on late-stage clinical trials are in a unique position to serve as practical consultants for how/whether analysis methods may be appropriate given their extensive knowledge of the data collected within clinical trials. It is also essential for statisticians working on late-stage clinical trials to communicate statistical concepts for program strategy, study design, data analysis, and interpretation of results in an understandable way to non-statisticians who may have varying backgrounds in clinical development.  In this presentation, tips for explaining statistical concepts and rationale to non-statistician colleagues with varying levels of statistical knowledge will be presented.  Practical examples of successful and less than successful interactions will be provided.

     Bio

Christine Gause is an Executive Director of Biostatistics in Oncology late development statistics at Merck.  She graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a Ph.D. in Biostatistics and she has spent more than 18 years collaborating on cross-functional teams as both a protocol-level statistician and a program-level statistician in the vaccines, diabetes and oncology therapeutic areas within the pharmaceutical industry.  She currently leads a team of more than 30 statisticians that support late stage oncology trials.
