    Cornell University is seeking a full-time Statistical Consultant to provide applied statistical support to a wide variety of university departments through the Cornell Statistical Consulting Unit (CSCU). Responsibilities include providing under the supervision of senior consultants, substantive statistical consulting and research support for faculty, graduate and undergraduate students and research staff. Clients come from a broad array of fields of research including but not limited to epidemiology, economics, psychology, sociology, nutrition, microbiology and genetics, linguistics, agricultural and plant sciences, engineering and veterinary medicine. CSCU is a fast paced office as it has logged more than 3500 client contacts annually over the past few years and this number is continuously increasing. CSCU also offers a growing number of workshops, guest lectures and courses and in addition provides statistical contract services i.e. full-service statistical analyses for clients.

    Specific responsibilities include:
     With assistance of the director and senior statistical consultants provide general and advanced advice and expertise for statistical, methodological and computational aspects of research to researchers.
     Researching and becoming conversant with unfamiliar statistical methods.
     Assisting clients in designing their studies, identifying appropriate statistical and other analytical techniques to address their research questions, implementing the suggested methods, interpreting the output obtained, writing up their methods and results sections for proposals or publications and responding to reviewers when needed.
     Preparing and delivering instructional workshops, guest lectures for regular classes and other training on basic and advanced statistical techniques.
     Writing documentation and expository handouts on applied statistical methods.
     Researching, testing and adapting statistical software, and coding statistical procedures.
     Keeping abreast with new statistical and data science methods.
     Performing complete statistical analyses for various contract projects handled by CSCU.

       

    Requirements:

    Master's degree in statistics or related field and minimum 3 years' experience in a research environment, or equivalent combination. Sound knowledge of theoretical statistics as well as experience in their application. Interest in and ability to independently learn new statistical and computational methods is a must. Demonstrated excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills. Enthusiasm for working with a large and diverse clientele and the ability to communicate technical information in an understandable way. Experience using various statistical packages, required (e.g. R, SAS, Stata, SPSS, JMP,… Other programming and data management experiences are highly desired. Sets and maintains high professional standards, pays attention to details, works well independently, meets deadlines, and takes personal responsibility for making things happen. Experience working and being conversant in a wide range of research fields preferred.
