    POSITION DETAILS

    The Graduate School of Public Health and Health Policy (CUNY SPH) is dedicated to providing cutting edge graduate degree programs and to identifying, designing, implementing and evaluating public health initiatives that contribute to social justice. The mission of the school is to promote innovative public health strategic policies to improve the health of populations. CUNY SPH faculty members are recognized leaders in health policy, community health interventions, epidemiology and biostatistics, and public health informatics, among other areas. Faculty and students are actively engaged in promoting healthy communities in a healthy world. CUNY SPH is located in a new vertical campus in the heart of Harlem in New York City. 

    The CUNY SPH's Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics (Epi-Bios) seeks a tenure-track or tenured faculty member who will: 1) contribute to strengthening and developing graduate-level training programs in epidemiology and biostatistics; 2) teach advanced graduate courses in epidemiology and/or biostatistics and mentor graduate students; 3) lead and publish high impact research in epidemiology and/or biostatistics; 4) collaboratively seek external research funding with multi-disciplinary teams; and 5) participate in Department, School and University events and committees. The Epi-Bios Department is a vibrant group that includes 11 faculty members with formal disciplinary training in Epidemiology, Statistics, Health Demography, and Public Health Informatics. With several million dollars annually in research grants, Epi-Bios faculty members are actively engaged in cutting edge research to address critical and current public health problems domestically and globally. The Department offers an MPH in Epidemiology, an MPH in Biostatistics and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Epidemiology. Our mission is to train the next generation of public health practitioners, epidemiologists and biostatisticians in rigorous epidemiology and statistical methods and their applications to pressing and real-life public health problems.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS

     

    A preferred candidate should have:

     

    • Doctoral degree in biostatistics, statistics or closely related field.
    • Demonstrated a track record of at least 3 years of experience.
    • Breadth and depth of knowledge of statistical methodology and applied statistics for common types of public health and epidemiological research.
    • Demonstrated track record of excellence in teaching graduate level biostatistics or statistics courses and mentoring graduate students.
    • Evidence of productivity resulting from previous independent and collaborative research (e.g., peer-reviewed publications, writing and participation in grant applications, abstracts, posters, presentations, reports, or other products) to warrant appointment at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level.
    • Demonstrated commitment to applied research in communities, workplaces, health departments/governmental bodies, NGOs or other non-academic settings.
    • Excellent analytical, interpersonal, time management, and organizational skills, including thorough and consistent documentation of work to ensure reproducibility. 

    COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

    Salary and position commensurate with education and experience.
