    Posted 07-26-2021 16:26
    Dear Colleagues,

The 2021 UConn Sports Analytics Symposium will be held at UConn on
Saturday, Oct. 9, 2021. The keynote sessions will be in-person (with
online streaming) unless UConn regulations prohibit so. All symposium
activities can be attended virtually. Recall that the symposium has a
unique focus on students, with 6 training workshops, a student poster
competition, and this year a panel discussion on careers in sports
analytics. We are expecting poster submissions from overseas. I'd
really appreciate it if you can pass the information to the students
and faculty of your institution, and encourage your students to submit
    posters.

    Cheers!

interested in sports analytics. Organized by the UConn Statistical
Data Science Lab of the Department of Statistics, UCSAS aims to: 1)
showcase sports analytics to students at an accessible level; 2) train
students in data analytics with application to sports data; and 3)
foster collaboration between academic programs and the sports
    industry.

    # Keynote Presentations

    • Eric Tulsky, Assistant General Manager, Carolina Hurricanes
    • Justin Jacobs, Principal Research Statistician, Sandia National

    Dear Colleagues,

This is a reminder that the deadline for poster submission is Friday
this week. Student entries automatically enter a student poster
competition, thank 8 experts in our student poster award committee
    from both academia and industries.

With a goal to promote data science and sports analytics. all our
recordings will be made available after the event. For example, the
recordings from last year are available at
    https://statds.org/events/ucsas2020/program.html.

Although we don't have a deadline for registration as the event will
be online, early registration gives time to send you instructions from
workshop instructors if you plan to take any of them.

Please contact me at jun.yan@uconn.edu if you have any questions or comments.

    Best regards.

    Dear Colleagues,

The video recordings of all the sessions (except the workshop on web
scraping) are available for public viewing at
    https://statds.org/events/ucsas2021/program.html. Specifically, the
panel discussion on careers in sports analytics will be a great
resource for students interested in data science.

The Student Poster Award went to Quang Nguyen of Loyola University
Chicago for his poster “Concerns Regarding Sport Climbing Competition
Format and Scoring System: Who’s Suffering?” coauthored with Hannah
Butler and Gregory J. Matthews. Congratulations to Quang!

Comments/suggestions are welcome. We look forward to an even better
    symposium in 2022!
