October 10, 2020
In just ten days on World Statistics Day (Tuesday, October 20, 2020), the LISA 2020 Network will be announcing the number of statistics and data science collaboration laboratories that have been created in developing countries to transform evidence into action.
To join the World Statistics Day October 20th "LISA 2020 Day" event you must register at bit.ly/LISA2020DayRegistration. If you register you'll be emailed a Zoom link a couple days before and an hour or so before the event, which will run from 14:00–15:30 UTC (which is 10-11:30AM EDT or 7–8:30AM PDT).
LISA is the Laboratory for Interdisciplinary Statistical Analysis, which started at Virginia Tech and then moved to the University of Colorado Boulder in 2016. LISA 2020 is our program to build statistics and data science capacity in developing countries. It's not just researchers, businesses, and policy makers in the United States who could benefit from collaborating with statisticians and data science to advance their research or make data-driven decisions. And it's not just statistics students in North America who could benefit from collaborating with domain experts to apply statistics they learn in the classroom to solve real problems. Researchers, businesses, and policy makers EVERYWHERE (and especially in developing countries!) can benefit from collaborating with statisticians and data scientists to transform evidence into action toward local solutions to local challenges.
And so, in 2012, we created the LISA 2020 Program to establish a network of at least 20 statistics and data science collaboration laboratories in developing countries. It's been an amazing eight years so far. If you're curious if we have reached our goal as of today, our website
www.LISA2020.org is up-to-date.
Attached is a flyer for the LISA 2020 Symposium, of which the LISA 2020 Day on October 20, 2020 is a highlight event.

Dear ASA Members and everyone interested in building statistical analysis and collaboration capacity in developing countries:
In one month on World Statistics Day (October 20, 2020), the LISA 2020 Network will be announcing the number of statistics and data science collaboration laboratories that have been created in developing countries to transform evidence into action.
LISA is the Laboratory for Interdisciplinary Statistical Analysis, which started at Virginia Tech in 2008 and then moved to the University of Colorado Boulder in 2016.
And so, in 2012, I created the LISA 2020 Program to establish a network of at least 20 statistics and data science collaboration laboratories in developing countries. It's been an amazing eight years so far. Stay tuned for the World Statistics Day October 20th "LISA 2020 Day" announcement and event!
