    ASA Members,

The ASA Section on Statistical Education Mentoring Program has been successfully running for three years. The program is aimed at connecting early career statistical educators at all levels with experienced mentors.

We are excited to invite interested mentees and mentors to apply to participate in the program for the upcoming year. The program operates on an academic calendar year from August 1, 2019 – June 1, 2020.  ASA membership is required, as is membership in the ASA Section on Statistical Education.

Mentees may be in the early career stages and new to teaching, or graduate students and postdocs that anticipate teaching statistics in the next few years.

Mentors are encouraged to support mentees in a number of ways. This may include meeting online several times per semester. These discussions may help explore career options, answer questions during a job search, provide advice on a first job, offer suggestions for research and pedagogical initiatives, or to answer other content specific questions. Most importantly, the mentor can help answer questions and make connections for the mentee with the larger statistical education community.

We try to match mentors and mentees based on a number of criteria, including career interests, geographical location, and research area, with the goal of matching in at least one of these areas.

We are looking for section members to participate in one of two ways:

    1. Those who would like to be mentored (a mentee).
    2. Those who would be willing to serve as a mentor.

If you're interested in participating in the mentoring program, please fill out the application form which can be found at the following link:

ASA Section on Statistical Education Mentoring Program Application Form

Priority will be given to those who apply before May 31, 2019, but applications will be accepted throughout the summer.  Note:  If you are currently in the mentoring program and would like to continue, please fill out the application form again.
