    About the employer:

    The University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez (UPRM) was founded in 1911 and is the second-largest university in Puerto Rico with about 13,000 students. The college has a solid, growth-oriented research environment. The supervisor's Data Science Group is hosted within the College of Business, UPRM. The group scientists conduct inter-disciplinary research in material science, biophysics, statistics, signal processing, and data science. The Data Science Team has several Computer and Information Science and Engineering graduate students and volunteers, and the project will be a collaboration among researchers spanning five other U.S. universities.     About the position:

    This is a post-doctoral associate position; renewable up to two years. Applicants must have a PhD in statistics, data science, mathematics or related discipline. Travel support to present at professional conferences will be provided.

    Responsibilities:

    Conduct joint research with supervisor in the inter-disciplinary areas of materials science, proteins, machine learning, and statistics. The primary tasks are (i) refine research questions, (ii) develop formal analytical plan, (iii) analyze dynamics in catalytic systems, (iv) develop new methods for problems where existing methodologies do not apply or perform poorly. Separate from this, the post-doctoral associate will provide analytical support to conclude other projects targeted at improving data driven decisions and facilitate development of an independent research program.   

    Desirable skills include:

    Expected to be highly interested in enhancing multi-disciplinary research in data science and work closely with the supervisor and other investigators to accomplish catalytic systems-related research goals, prepare manuscripts for publication in international peer-reviewed journals, give presentations at conferences and other venues on ongoing work, and help prepare competitive grant proposals.
